Do You Know How To Follow Your Energy?
The Chronicles of Elizabeth ~ Episode 16 ~ Do You Know How To Follow Your Energy?
“Ok, Iyabo, I have taken those steps just like we discussed. I have incorporated my business. I have my EIN number and I have opened my first business account. My website is almost finished.”
“Yay!”
“Yes, I am still having a hard time narrowing down what I want to do so my website is not complete.”
“Well you are making serious progress here. What about work?”
“Well, like we discussed, this has to get off the ground first. And they have announced another round of layoffs in the next couple of months so I guess I will wait until then and see what happens. I don’t feel ready, but….”
“OK, let us look at narrowing down what you do. Let me ask you some questions and this should stimulate you and point you in the right direction. OK?”
“Sure.”
“What are you good at?”
“I am good at everything! That is the problem. Web design, project management, games and applications….”
“OK, What do you absolutely love to do?”
“OK, I love creating video games and on the other hand I also like the idea of creating professional iphone apps.”
“Wow. You know how to do that? Yes, that is what I do for fun. I have not made any money doing it because I just have too much fun doing it, I could not see charging for it.”
[LOL]
“Elizabeth my dear, that is your sweet spot! Do you see how you have a disconnect between having fun and making money?”
“O my gosh! I never saw that. Wow! I guess I feel that what ever I do professionally has to be challenging and stimulating.”
“Challenging and stimulating? Is that just another term for ‘hard?’ “
“Hmmmmmm….yeah! I am trying to make this hard?”
“Yes, you are. It does not have to be something so huge and overwhelming that you cannot do it.
My philosophy of business is that you want to to find your sweet spot, that spot that gives you energy and passion and fun and you want to create from that place. Unfortunately, or should I say fortunately, that is not a left brain place usually. So we are not familiar with it or comfortable with it.
We are trained that school is hard and excelling has always meant overcoming what is hard. I just do not believe that any more. The marketplace paradigm is shifting and changing.
As people are moving into a space of thriving, we want things that just plain make us feel good. Like an iphone or the ipad!”
“So true.”
“Ok, let me ask you a couple of other questions. What did you do at age six that you still love to do?”
“Well, the first thing that popped in my mind when you said that was this: I do not think that I was six, I think I was eight but my father taught at a big university and I loved to go to campus with him because they had one of the first video arcade games that was coin operated.
I could play those games I was beating quite a few of the college students at the time. I was such a hero! Those college kids would see me coming and they would give me the nod. You know the nod? That nod that says, I see you. man!”
[LOL]
“Ok, Elizabeth, follow your energy….. See how you are feeling? You sound like a kid again. You sound light and full of life and possibilities.”
“Absolutely, I was the queen of the game.”
“And you still are!”
“Wow. Wow. Wow. I have not felt this way in a long time.”
“Ok, now Elizabeth, from this place, let me ask you another question. What is the expression you want to see on the face of the end buyer of your product or services?”
“That is easy. I want to see the kid in them and see their face light up. I want to bring the kid out in them.”
“Sounds to me like you have a mission statement there.”
“Wow, I could do this. Ideas are flashing through my head about smart phone apps and bringing the ease of computer games to some professional apps.”
“Elizabeth, I am smiling. This is how you follow your energy to create a powerful product or service. Your energy is telling you what works or what does not work. This is how successful entrepreneurs are created.”
“Boy, I feel good!”
