Clarity And Focus Bring Effectiveness!
The Chronicles of Elizabeth ~ Episode 15 ~ Clarity and Focus Bring Effectiveness!
“Good morning, Elizabeth. How are you today?”
“Good morning, Iyabo. I am great. I missed the newsletter. You did not get it out yesterday.”
“Yes, I know. I am having a crisis of sorts.”
“Really, the coach is having a crisis?”
[LOL]
“Yes, the coach is having a crisis.”
“Well, I am sure it is personal so….”
“No! No! No! It is important as a coach that you are aware that I am human too. Everyone has crisis and every one has down days. It really just becomes a matter of how we handle it. I always consider things like this a teachable moment and I will be blogging about it.”
“Well, now I am curious.”
“Well, I think I am having an identity crisis of sorts.”
“Really?”
“Yes. You know, I do all this money coaching and business coaching. I really love working with solo-preneurs and freelancers like you.”
“Yes.”
“But I feel that I am a fraud!”
“A fraud! That is harsh language.”
“Yes, a fraud. You know in our one on one coaching sessions, I do a lot of energy work. I am very intuitive and I bring a spiritual dimension to my work with you.”
“Yes. Absolutely.”
“Well, I feel that I am still tied up with being a “lawyer” and that label. I think I am having a hard time letting go of my need for such acceptable terms. I am scared to put out there that I do a lot of energy and emotional work with clients.”
“Wow. But on your calls, you are open about it.”
“Exactly. I am very open about it with a small group of people. I do not mind that but putting it out there everywhere creates some tension within me and I know it has to do with the fact that I bridge two worlds.
And you know this is the interesting thing about me. Culturally and racially, I bridge two worlds.”
“You mean because your racial and cultural background?”
“Yes. And professionally, I bridge two worlds: The right brain world and the left brain world.”
“I think that is what sets you apart.”
“I guess, but it tends to rattle my core identity sometimes. It can feel isolated living between two worlds and realizing that not everyone gets me.”
“So, what is the solution?”
“Well, the solution is to quit feeling sorry for myself and get over it. Also, just be myself and stop worrying about what other people think. The solution is to ask myself what I would tell a coaching client if she asked me that question. The solution is to get clear about who I am and focus on what I do.”
“That felt very powerful.”
“Well, it is true, clarity and focus help you regain your personal power and obviously I was feeling not-so-powerful as I questioned who I am.”
“So what would you say to the client who presented this issue to you?”
“Elizabeth, you are learning coaching skills here! Awesome. I would take the time to sort out what the core identity areas are and see where they overlap and where the overlap creates opportunities.”
“Are you saying this is an opportunity?”
“Yes, indeed it is an opportunity. I know this much: When I take the time to do my personal development work which I am fully committed to, shifts happen. When I take a bird’s eye view about my life and my professional life, it is a time for a major shift to happen. This shift only brings me closer to my core purpose and goals.”
“Yeah!”
“Yeah, I help others bridge worlds. Really it is that simple! I just need to embrace that even more fully and I will not be such a “fraud.” “
“Wow! I think that word fraud is too strong. You are just growing that’s all!”
“Yeah. Well, I say fraud because anytime I am hiding behind a curtain of correctness or appearances, I am not being authentic. For me, it feels like a major fraud and I cannot function like that. Now, enough about me. I really do feel better. Thanks for listening. Now, clarity and focus helped me get out of that hole. What about you? Where do you see a need for clarity and focus in your life?”
[Deep Breath]
“I am glad you are feeling better. I feel that I got coached by you with you expressing yourself, because I also feel caught in two worlds with my techie side and my creative side.”
“Well, there is no better time or place to start. Let’s do it. You know that is what my next class is all about: Bridging love and business.”
“You know Iyabo, I did not know all this about you. I just feel closer to you knowing that you are not a super hero or anything impossible like that.”
“No, darling! I am human!”
