The Purpose of Life

I have discovered that many people do not go around asking themselves the purpose of their lives until something drastic happens and they hit rock bottom.

Well, if that is you, congratulations. If you have hit rock bottom, that is.

Rock bottom is such a lovely place. There is no where to go but up!

I think such experiences are sometimes necessary because they help us identify what really matters.

You do not have to have a rock bottom experience to know what really matters but if it does happen, it is not the end of the world.  I assure you.

My rock bottom happened several times in my life. A divorce, the death of my father, the death of my mother, the death of my mother in law and the day it really dawned on me that I really hated practicing law.

Here I was, I had gone to law school, spent all this money on my education, worked hard – very hard and I had to come face to face with the fact that I did not like what I was doing 10 to 12 hours a day.

Well, I so closely identified with the label of being a lawyer that I had lost myself.

It was certainly a discovery process to figure out who I was.

That was how I coined the phrase “Inner Genius.” I started to see that I had other intelligence and wisdom within me that went beyond my education. My emotions were an intelligence and my creativity was as well.

So, this is your Inner Genius:

The intersection of five parts of you:

1. Your left brain knowledge and learning;

2. Your right brain creativity and intuition;

3. Your emotions, especially your emotional heart which thrives on love;

4. Your body’s subtle energy system which embodies the mind body connection; and

5. Your God connection – your spiritual component.

This intersection of five parts of you show you how complex and amazing you are.

Our educational system teaches us to develop our left brains and our education ends there. There is so much more to you than that!

Welcome to your Inner Genius.

  1. Interesting article. A part of it resonates with a lot of people I’m sure. I remember in the past I used to wish (in some weird way) that I could hit rock bottom. I wished that because I thought “that’s where people change… for good.”

    And I know that some people change when they hit rock bottom. But the sad fact is that a lot of people hit rock bottom and lay there and die, even if they aren’t being buried for years.

    So in the mean time, I say don’t wait for rock bottom. Just start climbing over the rocks right now. Even if they are pebbles the add up to hills in the years ahead.

    No darling, you do not have to reach rock bottom to change. You can merely choose to change! Really that is all it takes.
